PROJECT 3: Basemeshes & ZBrush

For the past week I have been mainly working on the three main assets for my SoT scene and well, it's been a ride. I've forgotten a lot about hardsurface modeling and in retrospect, I probably should have not picked such diverse subjects for my matrix -> picking organic character, 2D concepting and then 3D prop/hardsurface meant that I had to switch into different modes every few weeks and remember different things about all I knew in each discipline numerous times and that took way more time than I had at hand. Good thing is, for my FMP I've chosen a pretty consistent topic so I have hopefully already learned from this mistake! :D  Anyway, the stage where I had to prepare the basemeshes for Zbrush was by far the most difficult at the start. Meeting the old friends called NGons, rat nests and control loops was a memory I'm not eager to revisit; nevertheless, I pushed through it, frontloaded my meshes as much as I could to save myself some certain tears in Zbrush...

FMP: Kled - Pedestal

I admit that over the past few weeks I've gotten a little tired of my Ashe project. Fortunately I had one more project to finish presentation for - the dear Kledward Teach, which I was looking forward to get back to. Unfortunately, my laptop did not share my enthusiasm :D I think the continous daily overuse of it (ZBrush + 3dsmax + PS + PureRef + Hannah Montana soundtrack on Youtube open at he same time) caused it to get slower in the past few weeks, so much so that the textures which normally loaded in a minute in 3DCoat took 15 minutes to load (+ 2 crashes) and subsequently also took 15 minutes per each autosave :D Well, I tried to use the time strategically and write this blog during the loading time. If Hannah Montana taught me something, it's that Nobody's Perfect and I definitely can't blame my laptop for not being perfect - everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days and " If things don't turn out the way you plan, f igure something else out!  D...

FMP: Week no. I-don't-even-know-anymore-the-world-is-ending

How much can possibly change in mere few weeks? The Universe has been testing the limits of the answer to this question vigorously this year. Since my last post, I got the incredibly surreal news of being offered a Character Art internship position at Riot Games for Summer 2020 - I felt like the happiest person on Earth, Riot has been a company I wanted to work for since I knew what Game Art was, maybe even earlier, as I remember being wow-ed by the art in their game, League of Legends, ever since I started playing it in my early teens. Since my last post, however, the whole world has changed too, drastically, so much so that the current situation is frequently being compared to WWII by news and media. If someone reads this years after it has been published, I am talking about the Covid-19 pandemic - travel bans, face masks, lockdowns, fears for the lives of our loved ones, all of these set to undoubtedly change everyone's immediate and maybe even long-term futures.
